The Foden’s Band will be taking part in a world premiere of a new work by Composer in Residence Andy Scott (above) at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.

Award winning

The band will present an evening of music on Friday 2nd May, by the British Composer Award winner which will include, ‘A Child Like You’, featuring soprano and narrator Anna-Clare Monk and harpist Lauren Scott, with words by Southbank Centre (London) Artist in residence, poet Lemn Sissay MBE.

Subsequent performances, which will be recorded for Radio 3, will take place in London at the Southbank Centre, Queen Elizabeth Hall, and in Glasgow as part of the celebrations of the Commonwealth Games.

Child refugee

The 'A Child Like you' commission poses questions about children that are fostered, adopted or orphaned, using poetry written by Lemn Sissay from his celebrated children’s book, ‘The Emperor’s Watchmaker’, which draws upon his real life experiences as a child refugee flying from Uganda in 1972 and who went on to live with Andy Scott’s parents.
