Richard Evans takes world leadership at Framlingham

Richard Evans leads an international line up of playing talent at the recent Brass Band Summer School in Framlingham.

The 29th Brass Band Summer School recently took place amid the wonderful surroundings of Framlingham College in Suffolk, where delegates from as far afield as USA, Japan, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland met up with counterparts from the UK to enjoy a week of superb brass tuition and fun.

Music team

The delegates were led by BBSS Music Director Richard Evans and the music team of Ian Porthouse, Brian Taylor, Owen Farr, David Childs, Nick Hudson, Steve Sykes and Paul Lovatt-Cooper.

There was also a visit from David Daws who took sectional rehearsals, whilst the banding world’s most experienced adjudicator, David Read MBE was this year’s guest speaker.

Bram visit

Newly appointed BBSS President, Bramwell Tovey also took time out of his busy schedule to spend time at Framlingham this year, where he conducted the one of the summer school bands and delighted the delegates with his wonderful improvisation on the piano.

The solo and ensemble evenings once again proved to be very popular with internationally renowned pianist Alison Procter on hand to provide expert accompaniment.

As a result, the popular Entertainment Contest, is now in its fifth year was enjoyed by all delegates.

Music

The music selected included ‘Dances & Arias’, ‘Four Scottish Dances’, ‘Spectrum’, ‘The Plantagenets’, ‘Riverdance’, ‘Capriccio Italien’ and ‘Hungarian March’, whilst it was revealed that next year’s course will visiting clinicians from the brass section of the London Symphony Orchestra.
