A quintet form the Yorkshire champions have helped fill the pews for Songs of Praise.
Five players from newly crowned Yorkshire Regional Champions Carlton Main Frickley Colliery Band recently took part in the filming of the BBC’s flagship religious programme ‘Songs of Praise’ which was filmed at Wakefield Cathedral.
Packed pews
As is the case when the cameras come to town for the showpiece Sunday evening television production, the great and good of local congregations turned out on mass, with over 650 people packed into pews of the refurbished cathedral to belt out the songs and hymns.
Kirsty Abbotts, Sam Lovatt, Arfon Owen, Toni Durrant and Robert Browne, along with the cathedral choir and organ provided the musical accompaniment for the occasion, which will be broadcast over two separate days—the first of which will be on St George's Day later this month.
The second episode will be aired the weekend before Carlton Main head off to the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "The day of filming was extremely intense but we are sure that we did Wakefield and Yorkshire proud.
The reception we received from the BBC staff and the 650 people of Wakefield was absolutely tremendous, and we are delighted to have been involved in celebrating the renovations."
